Online learning can be a challenging experience because physical distance often creates a barrier between students and faculty. To succeed with an online learning environment, students should be self motivated and ready to utilize the services that are available. One of our goals at FSIHS is to recreate the classroom environment as much as possible through the virtual classroom. Our faculty and staff are here to support you each step of the way.

Each class includes an interactive discussion forum which is the hub for interaction with fellow students and with professors. Students should utilize this forum regularly, both for assigned postings and for additional interaction, coordination with fellow students, and academic help. Professors are also available both through the portal and through email for academic support.

On the last Tuesday of each month at 10am central time, Dr Hawkins hosts an online interactive event called the Research Insider. During this event, FSIHS students get a backstage view at the process of clinical research through updates on epidemiological and clinical studies taking place at the school. This allows students to better grasp the clinical research process and to get an advanced look at findings months or even years before they are published for other professionals in the field.

Tutoring

One of the goals of all FSISH professors is to observe students during the exploration and mastery process with each of the concepts presented in class. One of the benefits of our intimate class sizes is that professors often notice that a student is struggling before a student realizes they need help. When this occurs, professors reach out to offer additional resources and tools that supplement the regular curriculum so that a student can succeed.

Professors at FSIHS are committed to helping students succeed academically and in their future careers. If at any time during your educational process at FSIHS you feel that you need some additional support, resources, or encouragement, do not hesitate to reach out to your professor. They are here to help you succeed with this coursework.

Guidance Counseling

Many students enter an academic program not entirely sure where they want their professional career to take them upon graduation. To help students achieve clarity in their professional goals, guidance counseling is built into the curriculum and students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of applications of these newly acquired skills. All students complete case studies, product formulation, and engage in the compilation and dissemination of information in the field to help identify where passions and interests may be taking each unique student. If additional assistance is required, faculty and staff are available by appointment to brainstorm and network career solutions.

The Franklin School of Integrative Health Sciences library serves the students, faculty, and other authorized members of the FSIHS academic community. The library contains a copy of nearly every textbook required for completion of FSIHS academic programs, scientific journals, trade journals, and additional books related to the programs offered at FSIHS. To ensure an environment that promotes research and to protect the resources available in the library, all library members are expected to adhere to the rules and guidelines related to the use of library resources.

A current student or faculty ID is required to borrow books or resources in the FSIHS library. This ID or photo ID must be shown each time a resource is borrowed.

Textbook Checkout Policy

  • Borrowers agree to return all items to the library in good condition on or before the due date. While items are in the borrower’s possession, borrower agrees to protect the materials from damage.
  • Items that are not returned 90 days after the due date will be considered lost and must be replaced. Replacement costs are in addition to the 90 days of late fees which total $45.
  • Lost or damaged items will be billed to the student’s account. The library may accept replacements in lieu of replacement cost (but not late fees), assuming items are exact editions and in new or like-new condition (no markings, defects, etc.).
  • Borrower agrees to respect copyrighted material and will not engage in copying pages from texts physically or electronically. This includes taking pictures of the text.

Library Fees

There is no additional charge for current students to use the library. Students and faculty may borrow up to 4 items per account. Unless otherwise noted, all items are due back in the library 1 week (7 days) following the end of the academic quarter, regardless of when they were borrowed.

Materials that are not returned 7 days after the end of the academic quarter incur a library fine of 50¢ per day. Please note: Library fines are considered financial obligations to the school. Unpaid library fines will result in holds placed on registration, graduation, and the release of transcripts.

Interactive distance learning offers many inherent accommodations for students, including the ability to work on your own schedule during the day, freedom from anxiety-inducing in-class distractions, and the ability to fully concentrate on the schoolwork at hand in a comfortable environment. However, we also recognize that sometimes a student may require academic adjustments or auxiliary aids for other purposes.

If you would like to request any accommodations, please contact the administrative office. Students may request academic assistance or support at any time. Our administrative team is responsible for coordinating compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Applicants, who are persons with disabilities, as defined in paragraph 104.3(j) of the regulation under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, may apply for admittance into the program. FSIHS will provide academic adjustments as needed, such as additional tutorial support, adjustments to test-taking timeframes, accommodating course schedules, and other reasonable accommodations unless doing so presents an undue hardship.

Any qualified individual with a disability requesting an accommodation or auxiliary aid or service should notify the administrative office in writing of the type of accommodation needed, date needed, documentation of the nature and extent of the disability, and of the need for the accommodation or auxiliary aid. The request should be made at least four weeks in advance of the date needed.

Any person with a grievance related to discrimination, including requests for academic adjustments, auxiliary aids and services, and requests for accommodation under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act should notify the director in writing of the grievance, any supporting material that explains your grievance, and the accommodation, academic adjustment or auxiliary aid that will satisfactorily address your grievance. FSIHS does not provide medical insurance for students. All prospective students are encouraged to obtain their own medical insurance
