What you Need to Know About Epidemiology to be Better Prepared for an Epidemic

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, more people than ever are attempting to read, interpret, and apply findings from epidemiological research. After all, epidemiology is the field of studying the spread and containment of disease; the field as a whole literally exists for moments such as this. But, without a background in epidemiology, the scientific literature is easy to misinterpret. And during such critical times, misinterpreting the science can have dangerous consequences. In this FREE event, Dr. Jessie Hawkins will provide critical context and guidelines to help you better understand the science so you can better protect yourself and your loved ones.

Dr. Hawkins was trained in epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, one of the world’s leading public health universities and is widely respected for her ability to make this advanced science approachable for everyone. While we can’t squeeze years of post-graduate epidemiological training into an hour-long webinar, we can help you avoid some of the most common mistakes made when reading the scientific research. If you find yourself asking why the case fatality rate varies so much, whether or not we can change reproductive rates, or whether or not it’s time to start discussing the phrase endemic, you’ll find the answers you’ve been looking for in this hour-long event.

  • Interpreting reproductive rates during an ongoing disease investigation
  • Case fatality rates as compared to crude death rates
  • Measures of the spread of disease
  • Factors in disease modeling and growth curves
  • Epidemiological research methods and applications

You will receive details on webinar access immediately after submitting the form above. If you have not received your registration confirmation within one hour, and you have checked your spam/promotions folder, we recommend re-registering. Most cases of missing access links are due to typos in your email address. During the event, you will be able to submit questions to Dr Hawkins through a chat feature. If time allows, the event will be followed by a Q&A where Dr Hawkins will address your questions.
